Guide to Caring for Your Teixits Vicens

Practical tips to preserve the beauty of our handcrafted textiles

When you choose a fabric from Teixits Vicens, you are not simply acquiring a textile product. You are bringing home a piece of Mallorcan history, tradition and craftsmanship. Every thread has been dyed, woven and treated with care in our Pollença workshop, using the ancestral Mallorcan ikat technique, known on the island as tela de llengĂ¼es.

That is why caring for them properly is also a way of prolonging their life, their beauty, and their connection with Mallorca.

In this guide, we share some practical advice to help you keep your Vicens fabrics looking as fresh as the day you bought them. We want you to enjoy them, not hide them away in a drawer for fear of using them, while still giving them the attention that every handmade piece deserves.

1. Wash with care

Our fabrics are made primarily of 70% cotton and 30% linen, a natural fibre that is strong yet sensitive to harsh treatments.

MACHINE WASHING

  • Use delicate programmes (max. 30 ºC).
  • Choose neutral detergents.
  • Avoid industrial fabric softeners.
  • Wash similar colours together.

HAND WASHING
Ideal for small items such as bags, napkins or cushions. Use lukewarm water and soak gently. Do not wring out the fabric when draining: press with your hands and lay flat on a towel.
Stain removers may be used, as well as a small amount of diluted bleach.

2. Air dry, Mallorcan style

Whenever possible, dry your textiles outdoors, protected from direct sunlight to prevent colour loss.

  • If drying indoors, choose a well-ventilated space.
  • Do not hang the fabric folded from a single point, as this may cause distortion.
A Mallorcan fabric also appreciates the sun – but always in soft shade.

3. Ironing: yes, but with care

Our fabrics can be ironed without issue, but we recommend:

  • Adjusting the temperature to cotton or medium-low setting.
  • Avoiding excessive steam on areas dyed in deep colours.
For napkins, table runners or covers, a good iron highlights the patterns and enhances the fabric’s natural elegance.

4. Store properly, preserve better

When not in use, store your Vicens pieces in a dry, clean place, away from moisture and direct light.

  • Fold carefully. If the piece is large, such as a tablecloth, change the fold lines from time to time to avoid permanent marks.
  • Do not use sealed plastic bags: breathable fabric covers are best.
  • For cushions or covers, store them without the fillers to avoid deformation.

5. Small stains, simple solutions

A glass of wine or a drop of oil? It happens to the best tables. What matters is acting quickly:

  • Absorb the excess with paper towel (without rubbing).
  • Wash the stain with lukewarm water and neutral soap.
  • For difficult stains, consult a trusted dry cleaner familiar with natural, artisan-dyed fabrics.
Remember that our fabrics are not chemically treated, so avoid aggressive products.

6. Special care depending on the product

Cushion covers and upholstery

  • If removable, follow the washing instructions above.
  • For intensive use, we recommend applying an ecological anti-stain treatment (ask us for advice).
  • Vacuum or dry brush regularly to prevent dust build-up.

Tablecloths and runners

  • Shake off crumbs and clean stains after each use.
  • Wash regularly in cold water.
  • If using outdoors, protect from direct sun or rain.

Bags and accessories

  • Hand wash carefully or clean with a damp cloth.
  • Do not overload to prevent the fabric from stretching.
  • Store in fabric bags to preserve shape and colour.

Craftsmanship that lasts a lifetime (if cared for well)

Teixits Vicens fabrics are designed to accompany you in everyday life: at family meals, summer gatherings, and shared spaces. And with just a little attention, they will be with you for many years.

By caring for what has been handmade, you are not only protecting an object, but also a way of understanding the world: slower, more respectful, more authentic.

Thank you for being part of this story, thread by thread.

A Slow Route through Pollença

A guide to discovering the town through an artisanal and unhurried lens

In a corner of northern Mallorca, where the mountains brush against the sea and cobbled streets whisper tales of centuries past, lies Pollença – one of the island’s most soulful towns. Wandering here without hurry is a gift. Experiencing it slowly is a true delight.

At Teixits Vicens, we have been part of this story for over 160 years. That is why today we’d like to invite you to discover Pollença at a slower pace, one that values the authentic, the handmade, and the things that can only be savoured step by step.

Get ready to walk without a map. This is a route designed to let your senses guide you.

Morning: awakening among markets, coffee and looms

1. Breakfast in a square full of history
Begin in the Plaça Major, the beating heart of Pollença. Here, beneath the gaze of the Church of Our Lady of the Angels, village life unfolds. Order a cafĂ© con leche, an ensaĂ¯mada or a small rye bread roll with Mallorcan olive oil. Watch as the town and its people slowly wake up.
On Sunday mornings, the square transforms into a bustling market: local produce, fresh flowers, wicker baskets, artisanal cheeses… It is the perfect place to wander without intent, yet always leave with your hands full.

2. Visit to Teixits Vicens
At Teixits Vicens, our doors are open not just to showcase our products but to share a tradition. Here we continue to handweave the famous telas de llengĂ¼es, using the ancestral Mallorcan ikat technique.
You can explore the workshop, see the looms in action, touch the fibres, discover the process step by step, and meet the artisans themselves. It’s not just a visit – it’s a window into the textile soul of Mallorca.

Midday: art, nature and food taken slowly

3. Claustre de Sant Domingo and its hidden garden
Just a short walk from our workshop lies this former convent, now a cultural hub. Its Renaissance cloister invites silence and often hosts exhibitions and concerts, especially in summer.
Beside it, a small garden of native plants is the perfect spot to pause and breathe deeply. Time feels as if it stops here.

4. Lunch with local flavour
Pollença offers simple yet delicious cuisine. Look for a family-run restaurant or a quiet terrace to try traditional dishes such as tumbet, frit mallorquí or a fresh salad straight from the garden.
Pair your meal with a Mallorcan wine or a glass of vi de la terra, and if you can, finish with gatĂ³ almond cake served with almond ice cream – Mallorca on a spoon.

Afternoon: strolls, steps and horizons

5. Calvari: 365 steps towards calm
After lunch, climb the 365 steps of the Calvari, the famous stairway leading to a small chapel with spectacular views over the town and valley. Each step is a pause, a photograph, an inspiration.
At the top, the silence and the landscape will remind you why you came – and why you’ll return.

6. Shops with soul
On your way back down, wander through the artisan shops, art galleries and local workshops. Pollença is home to ceramists, painters, designers and jewellers who work with passion. Here, every object has a story, every purchase a face.

Evening: dinner under the stars

7. Dinner by lantern light
When night falls, Pollença glows with another kind of light. Terraces come alive, alleyways murmur. Choose a quiet corner for dining al fresco. Here, luxury lies not in sophistication but in well-crafted simplicity.
A good conversation, a glass of local wine, and a table dressed with a fabric you may already recognise: perhaps a llengua from Teixits Vicens, gracing the tablecloth of a dinner you won’t forget.

Experiencing Pollença slowly

Taking a slow route through Pollença is not just about seeing places – it’s about connecting with them. Feeling the town’s gentle rhythm, speaking with its people, looking with fresh eyes. And understanding that the most valuable things are not bought in haste, but discovered step by step.

At Teixits Vicens, we believe in this Mallorca that is tranquil, authentic and full of soul. And we are here, in every thread, to remind you of it.
