History
We are a family textile workshop in Mallorca
Since 1854

Fabrics were part of her life almost from her birth, his grandparents had a small wool weaving workshop obrat y brinet in León street number 55.

About us

Our history begins in 1854 in a small wool weaving workshop in Pollença, Mallorca. The founder Martí Vicens Vilanova, grandfather of the current owners, had.

He learned the Ikat technique from his father, which came to Mallorca along the silk route in the 16th century. Later his son Martí Vicens Alemany and his wife Antonia Capllonch.

The third generation of the family, with much effort, reinvented the concept of Ikat fabrics, creating innovative and timeless designs with a freer style.

Crafting is an activity that, by its nature, needs time to express itself fully. Our philosophy is based on transmitting, through fabrics, the culture Mediterranean and defend the local spirit. We dedicate all our efforts to perfect the quality of this fabric without losing its essence.

Being a fabric manufacturer gives us added value and the freedom to collaborate with designers, architects, companies, individuals… Whether it’s a photo shoot for a magazine or in the decoration of a house, hotel or space. We also design and produce exclusive pieces for clients who demand it. We positively value knowing and connecting with other companies that share our work philosophy. That is why we collaborate annually with other firms on new projects to continue growing and give it a spin more to the use of our fabrics.

A master of fabrics
Martí Vicenç Alemany «Bonjesus» (Pollença, 1926-1995).
Artisan and versatile artist

Fabrics were part of her life almost from her birth, his grandparents had a small wool weaving workshop obrat y brinet in León street number 55. Later, his father Martí Vicenç i Vilanova, introduced the robbery of tongues and a style freer in pollen tissues.

Martí and his brother Rafel had been handling the looms since very children, to weave the so-called canyons, which are a kind of aprons made of thread and wool.

Martí could not be instructed by his father since he perished young in the civil war and could not transmit all the knowledge of the ex officio, but with the help of a few small annotations and with his little experience he reinvented, as he said, the robbery of llengues and he imprinted on it from the first moment his personal experience touch menting with colors and compositions.

This whole process began in the small workshop on Calle Pou del Verger, which was later transferred to Reyes Católicos street. He married Antonia, in whom he found the ideal partner for be able to express their creative desires.

Meanwhile colors and textures flowed into his mind creating a very extensive and innovative collection of fabrics without ever losing the artisan spirit of Majorcan fabric that adapts to all types of environments; this allowed him more freedom to realize, upholstery, table linen, bedding and so on to infinity.

With much effort, the couple bought the house in Ca’n Sionet, in the Calvario Pollensin, current headquarters of the Museu Martí Vicenç. To expand the workshop, which soon became too small, moved to the Puerto Pollença road (Ca’n Berenguer).

One of the really key things in the life of Martí Vicenç it is his profession as a craftsman, the textile world is part of his life from his birth to his death.

He knew how to evolve his creations with the needs of every moment, until arriving at an avant-garde craftsmanship that he never lost his personal imprint.

All this amalgamation of fabrics, plus the creations of Antonia Capllonch, are manufactured today and have not lost or an iota of its initial freshness. They combine perfectly within all environments and styles.

Hence, those of us who work today, let us recover over and over again the mark with which she impregnated with elegance all the clothing collections for the home. Always discreetly, he has known that his work was beyond the fact of weaving.
