Artisanal fashion is experiencing a moment of renewal in Mallorca. With the launch of the initiative Moda Artesana de Mallorca, the Consell de Mallorca promotes a project designed to protect, showcase and project handmade fashion from the island, highlighting the work of artisans who keep traditional crafts alive.
The brand brings together professionals from different disciplines — textiles, jewellery, plant fibres, leather and footwear — who share a common goal: to promote the value of locally made products created using traditional techniques and with a strong sense of identity.
Among them is Teixits Vicens, a historic reference in the production of the emblematic teixits de llengües, one of the most representative fabrics of Mallorca’s textile heritage.

A collection that brings together tradition and contemporaneity
To mark the official presentation of the brand, celebrated with a fashion show at Palma’s Teatre Principal, the participating artisans presented pieces created specifically for this project.
For this occasion, Teixits Vicens developed several textile pieces integrated into a collection where the fabric itself becomes the true protagonist. The garments, defined by straight lines and a sober aesthetic, offer a contemporary interpretation of llengües fabric, designed for an urban and versatile context.
The collection also explores identity and versatility in fashion, featuring genderless garments that can be worn by both men and women. In this way, the traditional Mallorcan textile enters into dialogue with contemporary, inclusive and modular silhouettes, offering a new interpretation of the island’s textile imagination.

A tribute to Martí Vicens
Looking towards the future also means acknowledging the legacy of the past. For this reason, one of the pieces in the collection pays tribute to Martí Vicens, artisan and artist, reinterpreting the interplay of threads and compositions that characterised his pictorial work.
This gesture reflects our essence: keeping a centuries-old craft technique alive while exploring new ways to apply it within contemporary design.

Artisanal fashion versus fast fashion
The initiative Moda Artesana de Mallorca also proposes a reflection on today’s consumption model. In contrast to the logic of fast fashion, based on mass and short-lived production, artisanal fashion defends the value of pieces created with time, knowledge and respect for the territory.
Artisanal pieces are not just garments; they are objects with history, with cultural and heritage value, created to last.
In this context, our work at Teixits Vicens shows that tradition and modernity can coexist, creating pieces that respect the roots of Mallorcan textiles while looking towards the future of fashion.
